Paintings and prints by artists Mary Spears and Christy Henspetter will share the spotlight during a two-woman show at Parker Ranch Historic Homes’ Puuopelu Gallery from July 1 through August 31, 2007.
Themed “At the Water’s Edge,” the show will feature paintings about the interplay between the ocean and the sky. Various artworks that will be on display and for sale will showcase both artists’ exploration of the world of plants, animals and people that surround Hawaii’s waters.
Spears and Henspetter will host an artists’ reception on Saturday, July 21 from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. David Gomes will provide solo guitar entertainment. Pupus and refreshments will be served. The reception is complimentary but reservations are required by calling 885-5433.
Using watercolor, Henspetter has painted highly detailed, quietly powerful paintings that resonate with the feeling of Hawaiian tapa. Another of her favorite themes is koi. Her work includes watercolors and oils.
Spears’ images are inspired by the play of sunlight on the waves, the late afternoon colors spilling from the tropical sky, the interplay of light and shadow between water and clouds. Spears’ work is a reflection of her love of Hawai‘I, inspired by the landscape, tropical plants, the people, and the playfulness that make up the local island experience
